Director Siddharth Anand appears to have responded to criticism of the trailer for Fighter from Pakistani actors who expressed dissatisfaction with the way Pakistan was portrayed.

The Indian Air Force's airstrike on Pakistan following a terrorist attack serves as the backdrop for the Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone film Fighter. After the release of the film's teaser, Hania Aamir, Adnan Siddiqui, and numerous other Pakistani actors questioned Siddharth Anand's direction. The filmmaker seemed to have responded to the criticism that cross-border celebrities had of Fighter.

"Didn't she literally work in a movie which was anti-India? If indian celebs have no issue with the anti-India stuff Pakistani celebs do in movies, why do Pak celebs care so much?" was the tweet that prompted him to respond with an emoji of a pondering face in response to a post regarding Hania Aamir's latest Instagram Stories.

Another person tweeted, "Was 'art' breathing here?" to which Siddharth Anand replied, "Oh!!" The original tweet discussed Parwaaz Hai Junoon, a 2018 Pakistani film. It stated that "Parwaaz Hai Junoon was an anti-Indian Air Force movie and Hania Aamir starred in it." Another X user agreed, saying, "Yeah, they depicted the Indian Air Force as villains."

Hania Aamir's words

It is quite regrettable and depressing to realise that there are artists in this day and age that continue to fuel the tension between the two nations while being aware of the influence that films have. I have sympathy for artists who attempt to close the gap by using their art as a vehicle for communication. Hania Aamir posted on Instagram Stories shortly after the debut of the Fighter teaser on January 15, saying, "Disgusting; let art breathe."

Other celebrities also criticised the Fighter teaser.

Actor Adnan Siddiqui of Pakistan remarked that it was 'disheartening' to see Pakistanis portrayed as villains in Bollywood, without disclosing the picture's title. "Once celebrated for love, Bollywood now crafts hate-filled narratives, portraying us as villains," he had tweeted lately. Even though we adore your flicks, this is depressing. Since art knows no bounds, let's use it to spread love and harmony. Politics has victimised two nations, and they both deserve better."

Pakistani star Zara Noor Abbas responded to the teaser for Fighter on Instagram Stories, writing, "Aren't you people tired of selling the same fake crap?! Guys, mature up! Why do you wish to promote this flimsy tale of hatred when the world is changing and maturing? possibly encouraged peace. Isn't there already enough hatred in the world that you felt the need to spread even more hatred via the widely used medium of film?"

In addition to Deepika and Hrithik, other actors in Fighter include Anil Kapoor, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Ashutosh Rana, Akshay Oberoi, and Karan Singh Grover. Siddharth Anand, known for his roles in Pathaan and War, is the director of the movie. The movie Fighter is scheduled to open in theatres on January 25, 2024.

As Fighter readies for its theatrical debut, Siddharth Anand's response highlights the ongoing debate between Indian and Pakistani artists, emphasising the intersection of cinema, geopolitics, and artistic expression.
