Babar Azam resigns as Pakistan captain in all formats
Following Pakistan's dismal 2023 ODI World Cup campaign, in which they only managed four victories in nine matches and failed to advance to the semi-finals, Babar Azam has resigned as captain of the team in all forms.
Babar Azam of Pakistan has chosen to resign from his position as the team's captain across all competition formats following an ICC World Cup where the squad performed below expectations. Babar Azam stated in a lengthy post on the social media site X that while it's a tough choice, he thinks now is the appropriate moment to make the call. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) named pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi as the new captain of the T20 team following the untimely departure of Babar Azam. Shan Masood will captain the Pakistan cricket team in the test format.
